Lawrence, 24, a tailor and Estinough, 25, a shoemaker don't show up in future census records as one would expect.
John Engler, sometimes listed as John S. Engler, continues to show up in later census records in Garnavillo. John married Sophia Dupke on Oct. 29, 1850, is listed in the 1870 federal census as living in Monona, Iowa. He died Dec. 17, 1887, and is buried in Pioneer Catholic cemetery, Monona.
There are more Engler census records in Garnavillo, Clayton County and Englers are still living there. But there is no evidence of ever having been any communication between these probably relatived branches. But I remember Edith Bornhauser, my aunt, speaking of Englers living north of Dubuque.
Jacob Engler shows up in Sherrill, Iowa in the later 1850s but there is no indication that he is related to the Garnavillo Englers, although one of his sons is named Andrew, born in the 1879. People tend to confuse him with Andreas I. Engler. Jacob's father was Theodore Engler from Prussia.
