A Coat of Arms is something foreign to American culture but still fascinating. It was very much a part of European medieval culture.
Under early heraldic rules, only first sons of first sons of the recipient of a Coat of Arms were permitted to bear their ancestor's coat of arms. Later, a Coat of Arms became a much more common family symbol.
Halbert's, an ancrestry research institute, indicates that there are more than one Engler Coat of Arms but that one of the earliest Coat of Arms they found looked something like the one on the right. Later versions usually resemble it in some way.
