Garnavillo, Iowa, 1850~1852
Three Engler brothers lived in house #585 in Clayton County, Garnavillo, Iowa, in 1850 according to the US federal census, Lawrence, 24, a tailor, Estinough, 25, a shoemaker, and John, 23, a saddler, all from Germany. There is no mention of Andrew, 30, living in Garnavillo nor any indication in census records I've seen of where he was between 1847 to 1851.

But there is mention of an Andrew Engler, 28, a farmer from Germany, living in present day, St. Donatus, Tete des Mort Township, Clinton County, Iowa, with his wife, Rosina, 28, a daughter, Mary, 2, and a son, John, 6 months old, in 1850 and again in the census of 1852.

Andrew married Margaret Less, 18, in 1851 and moved to Garnavillo apparently to live with his brothers. In 1852, he is still there with two daughters, Louisa and Mary Anna, while the St. Donatus Andrew has a daughter and a son. In 1856, Andrew is living in Cascade, near the Less family and he is registered in the census as a shoemaker.
